THE ROLE

We are looking for a Senior Back-end Engineer to lead the design and delivery of server-side systems across client projects. You will set technical direction, own architecture decisions, and raise the bar for the engineering team — while staying hands-on with code. We are an AI-first team and expect you to use tools like Claude and Codex as a natural part of how you design, write, and review code.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Lead the design and implementation of scalable, maintainable backend systems and APIs

• Make and document architecture decisions; define patterns for the broader team to follow

• Own database design — schema, indexing, query optimisation, and migrations

• Lead performance profiling, optimisation, and load testing for high-traffic services

• Define API versioning and contract management practices across client projects

• Integrate third-party services, payment systems, and external APIs

• Review code, mentor junior engineers, and uphold engineering standards

• Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and product teams to deliver features end-to-end

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• 5+ years of backend development experience (Node.js, Python, or

Java preferred)

• Strong command of system design — can architect services that are scalable, observable, and maintainable

• Deep understanding of relational and non-relational databases

• Solid experience with REST and GraphQL APIs

• Hands-on with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

• Excellent English - written and verbal. This is a hard requirement.

• Actively uses Al-assisted tools (Claude, Codex, Gemini, or equivalent) as a core part of your daily workflow — this is an AI-first team and a hard requirement.

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience with microservices and event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ)

• Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)

• Experience in high-traffic e-commerce or fintech systems
