Java Technical Lead (New Team)

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a new team consisting of 1 Technical Lead and 4–5 Java Developers, drive technical decisions, and contribute to the development of large-scale enterprise systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of high-quality Java applications and enterprise systems.
• Design system architecture and make key technical decisions to ensure scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Build, mentor, and lead a new engineering team, providing technical guidance and code reviews.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Business Analysts, and stakeholders to deliver project objectives.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and drive continuous improvement of development processes.
• Optimize application and database performance to ensure system stability.
• Promote engineering best practices, coding standards, and software quality across the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of Java development experience, including 2+ years in a Technical Lead or Team Lead role.
• Strong expertise in Java, Spring Framework (Spring Boot preferred), and MyBatis.
• Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and enterprise application development.
• Hands-on experience working with relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or DB2.
• Strong knowledge of SQL optimization and database performance tuning.
• Experience leading development teams, mentoring engineers, and driving technical excellence.
• Fluent English communication is required for working with global stakeholders.
• Experience working on Japanese projects or in Japanese development environments is a plus.

Preferred

• Experience building or scaling engineering teams.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
• Experience working with cloud platforms or modern DevOps practices is an advantage.
